The Indian spice asafoetida, often known as hing, has a unique, strong flavor. Rice flour is a common tool for cutting down on the force of ground asafoetida. Use Asafoetida Hing sparingly since a small amount goes a long way. In addition to other spices, asafoetida hing and mustard seeds that have been sautéed in ghee are frequently added to cooked lentils for taste and scent. It can also be used in fruit chutneys or to season vegetables.
